Things to Consider

A cornerstone of the At Home Next Door philosophy is engaging  residents in life.  Supporting a person with challenges to remain active is not just about ‘a bit of fun’ or an added extra – it is essential to their health and well being.  What would life be like if there was nothing to look forward to in the day or nobody needed us for anything? 

Activities include:

• Outings to regional places of interest 
• Errands
• Mini-vacations (over-nights) every 3-4 months at near-by attractions (DollyWood, Carrowinds.)
• Week long beach vacations twice a year.

We plan some day trips to amusement parks, Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC),. When appropriate we also schedule longer vacations using our time shares in Williamsburg, VA., Orlando, FL., SC beaches and Pigeon Forge, TN. These trips are at an additional cost.

Residents must agree to follow the instructions and advice of medical, psychiatric and specialist doctors. Alcohol and drugs of any sort, unless prescribed, are not allowed. Medication is "bubble packed" by local pharmacies on a weekly basis. (This insures the resident will not have access to an excessive amount of medication at any one time.)

We prefer the resident have no access to cash or debit card or credit card. (This prevents them from being able to order alcohol or try and purchase drugs when on outings.)

Birthdays, holidays, and other celebrations are a big deal in our family, and we invite relatives to join us. When there’s space, families are welcome to stay at the Main House, which has multiple rooms available for their comfort.
