Whether a client is needing a long- or short-term situation or accommodation, At Home Next Door, LLC is able to offer both. We do specialize in long-term care. While we do partner with the resident's doctors, local doctors and therapists to meet the various needs of our residents, we differ from other programs in that we provide a safe, supportive environment less focused on "treatment" and more focused on maintaining a quality of life where residents can flourish with as much freedom and independence they can realistically handle. Instead of rigid schedules, we ask residents what their priorities are, and structure their days around their individual hobbies, interests, capabilities and needs. After numerous experiences in typical treatment programs all over the country, our residents' feedback about our program consistently is how much more CHOICE and AUTONOMY they have in their daily lives, as well as a greater sense of BELONGING. Belonging leads to increased rates of stability and sustained positive mental health.
At Home Next Door welcomes you to Tryon – a quiet, peaceful town where our residents enjoy a warm community, surrounded by nature and countless outdoor activities. Here, you'll find opportunities for learning, volunteering, joining community events, and attending gatherings of all kinds. We encourage meaningful connections between residents and staff through group outings, chef-prepared meals shared together, and exciting optional trips. These experiences foster a sense of belonging and an enhanced quality of life.
If our residences are fully occupied, nearby apartments are available for rent. Additionally, families of long-term residents often purchase homes locally, which we then staff to meet the needs of the resident. Currently, we have nine fully staffed houses in our immediate area, with more to come as our community expands.
Our program offers realistic support through the changing stages of mental health that residents may experience. Whether it’s handling regressions, stressful life events, or fluctuating mental states, we know there’s no “one-size-fits-all” solution. Support can range from increased staff involvement to arranging extra appointments with specialists. In some cases, residents may need temporary access to external resources, and we handle the transportation to and from these services, ensuring their transition back to our community is smooth. Our goal is to reduce stress and be part of each resident's support network.
Since we value independence, we have some key expectations of potential residents:
We offer skilled support for various mental health conditions, including:
While we don’t currently accept residents with eating disorders, we can connect individuals who need support in this area with appropriate resources.
Our team at Home Next Door, LLC is equipped with a fleet of luxurious and comfortable vehicles (and a boat) to provide transportation for outings, errands, and medical appointments with staff assistance.
At Home Next Door, LLC, we offer comprehensive transportation services to meet global needs, including transfers from hospitals or other facilities to our location, or to other destinations as required. Often, patients experience gaps in care when discharged from a hospital while awaiting accommodation at their next facility. We step in to bridge that gap, providing compassionate support and a temporary home until they’re ready to transition—and we’ll ensure they arrive at their next destination on time.
Our versatile fleet also includes an RV, offering comfortable transport for new residents or those making intermediate stops. Whether bringing someone to our community from their current location, facilitating transfers from a hospital to a step-down facility, or making the journey to our program once they’re ready, we handle each step with care.
At Home Next Door, LLC, believes that sharing meals creates community by bringing residents together each evening. Our residents enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals crafted by our talented chefs, where staff and residents alike gather around the table for a welcoming, family-style dining experience. Each meal is designed to nourish, comfort, and foster a strong sense of community.
In the example pictured, you’ll see a hearty dinner of perfectly cooked pork chops, a small sample of the care and attention we bring to each dish. These meals do more than satisfy—they create meaningful connections and moments that make Home Next Door truly feel like home.
At Home Next Door, LLC, we offer personalized staffing tailored to meet the unique needs of each resident. Our skilled team includes specialists across a variety of care areas—from fitness training to creative arts. Staff members accompany residents to fitness centers, hiking trails, and recreational outings like bowling, kayaking, fishing, and ziplining, ensuring every activity is engaging and fully supported.
For residents who are able to volunteer or maintain a part time job there are opportunities as appropriate with local community businesses and organizations. Opportunities like this provide the resident with a feeling of accomplishment and bolsters self esteem while contributing to the benefit of the community and themselves.
Many people that come into our care have not been on any sort of vacation in some time for a variety of reasons. At Home Next Door, LLC feels this is an important activity promoting socialization and try to schedule getaways to amusement parks, beach excursions, and other attractions in small groups on a regular basis. (Pre-COVID, trips included Dollywood, a week at Disney World and week -long getaways to Charleston, SC beaches.)
We have experienced that many residents who come into our care have not had the opportunity for general medical care. We like to arrange for annual physicals with a local practitioner, dental appointments, eye exams and any other appropriate consistent basic medical care.
Many residents and families are unaware that they might be entitled to benefits through government agencies such as disability income and entitlement to Medicare or Medicaid to help defer costs. Sandra Warren (828) 440-1188 is the person who navigates the social security, disability, Medicare and Medicaid benefits for an hourly fee. Laura Ellington, local therapist (Polk Health) 828-894-2222, is available to visit our residents in their home or see them in her office (office visits are generally covered by insurance) and is well versed in our system. She will assess new residents and suggest the best type of therapist for the resident based on their specific needs. We have several psychiatrists associated with At Home Next Door, LLC trained in different treatments tailored to resident's needs. Dr. Chris Caston, psychiatrist, practices psychiatry from a genetic and scientific approach. 864-585-0328.Kathy Sanford 828-894-2222 works with Polk Health and Laura Ellington and sees residents on a regular basis to maintain their medications. Many of our residents are currently under guardianship or may require guardianship in the future. Parents or family members who are guardians may feel the strain on the family relationship and a third party is often beneficial. If this is the case, we recommend a professional guardian of the person (not financial guardian) that can help alleviate this strain and possibly mend some family relationships. The person we recommend for this is Dale Lyles with IKOR 864-909-3758.Mary Euler and Katheen Rodberg with Maquire, Wood & Bissette an Asheville Law Firm are attorneys familiar with our program and often assist in guardianship cases and other health care legal issues. 828-712-6792.
